Hear me out 🫣 and I’m going to get killed for this.. my MIL is imperfect. Lmao like 100%. But I always consider her on Mother’s Day. I realize she didn’t stop being a mom because her children grew up. I don’t mind a brunch with her. And then we go do our own thing ❤️but I always make space for her. My mom is gone now. And I realize now how much I miss the small traditions that I used to find annoying. Okie 😬 bye

This is why I’ve never cared for Mother’s Day despite being a mother for the last 24 years. It’s a source of anxiety. I don’t want to be pressured to go and do, if it’s a day honoring mothers, why can’t mothers stay at home and do nothing if they want, or go out and do what they want, without pressure or responsibility. I don’t think it was ever meant to be yet another holiday where you are expected to do things with the whole family despite being tired and wanting a break from all the responsibility.

My first Mother’s Day was almost exactly like this. We HAD to go to a brunch at my sister in laws. I had a newborn, so we had to bring a pack n play, baby monitor toys, a baby gate.. all the things. Of course I ended up having to try to get my baby down, she napped like shit, I ate cold food and no one acknowledged that I was a mom too.
