@dr.matthew.parker: 3 things I wish my patients knew before coming to their first appointment: 1) You don’t have to know exactly what to say. Often times, patients delay seeing a psychiatrist for a long time (sometimes decades). It can be an anxiety provoking experience to talk about your mental health, and that’s ok! You just have to be open to having a conversation 2) We don’t have to start meds immediately, or ever! Medications are an important tool for your mental health, but only when (and if) you’re ready! I often start with discussions of behavioral modification and move to meds if it is indicated. 3) Your goals matter! A diagnosis doesn’t define you–let’s carve out a plan to get you feeling back to your baseline, and better. #MentalHealth #psychiatry #anxietyhelp #anxietyrelief #medicaljourney
