I feel like you are kinda misunderstanding what’s being said. The original wasn’t “live-birth = alive after giving birth”, but rather that if you include abortions and miscarriage then pregnancy is less fatal. I believe a better rebuttal would have been to say that maternal mortality is measured per live birth because the goal is to understand the risk to the mother. Including miscarriage would not give accurate statistic to understand risks of giving birth. Now i may understand why they did this because the claim was “pregnancy is dangerous” as opposed to giving birth is dangerous.
