@darktourismwa: Bellingham closed one particular stretch of alley to deter loitering and illegal activities. I have my feelings and I'll keep them to myself. But one guy is enjoying his break in peace the moment I happened by. #darktourism #bellinghamwa #alleyclosure #downtownbellingham #whatdoyouthink?
It's about time! Hopefully, this will help the business patrons and the employees feel safe. I know this has been an ongoing issue since I've been in Bellingham. Something had to be done in support of the businesses.

People with full time jobs can't even afford housing here these days. This problem is systemic.

I'm for it primarily for the safety and peace of mind the workers now have. But Bellingham will never be able to solve the homelessness issue with these solutions. This will always be primarily a partisan issue and slightly a personal choice issue the homeless make their selves. Some of them genuinly do not want the help. Others do, but are unable to get out of that environment. Theres way more to it as I've written a couple essays on the topic. It's just a lot to take in, highly suggest anyone look into the issue their selves. It's very educational as much as it is heartbreaking to see how deep the cycle gets.

Where is this? Behind Railroad? Or is it near Old Town Cafe?

All I want to know is where they went. There were so many that lived in those alleys and I haven’t seen hardly any of them around since the gates went up

I work on this strip and it feels so weird not having people in the alley. It’s really sad because people were able to do their thing in the alley and such

This will hurt businesses and prevent people from getting in places they need to be. Some transitional housing is only accessible in the alleys. And the Honey Moon Mead is inaccessible without going through the alleys.

I’ve lived here since the 80’s and it was way better, not run down. We used to have department stores downtown and lots of things to do. There were little homeless, but a few.

Are they doing this to prevent the unhoused people from getting into the alleys? Moving them from place to place does not help. They need to figure out how to help these unhoused people instead of just kicking them down the road.
