That mindset that you’re doing someone a favour by employing them is exactly where many business problems begin. Employment is not charity. It is an exchange of value. Yes, you provide wages. But the employee provides time, skills, energy, and in many cases, the very execution that keeps the business alive. Without that contribution, the business does not grow. When you consider doing employees favour, it often reflects in how you treat people—poor communication, lack of structure, no clear expectations, and sometimes even disrespect. As a Chartered Accountant and SME business consultant, i understand your frustrations but i can diagnose two things here: poor recruitment, poor training and development and lack of structure.
