@andyjamerson: Under €500 for a setup that can actually pull great shots. Here’s exactly what I’d buy: Grinder: Baratza Encore ESP 175€, I’d personally always go for an electric grinder because hand grinding is the better budget option but very frustrating. it takes a lot of effort. Machine: Sage Bambino 269€, awesome little machine that for me is much better than the super budget options. if you’re really tight on budget, i would go for this one. A self-leveling tamper and a cheap scale. That’s it. No fluff, no overspending. What’s in your current setup? #espresso #coffeesetup #homecoffee #specialtycoffee
Personally, I'd take the DF54 over the baratza and definitely skip the calibrated tamper... Tamping level isn't hard and tamping pressure is absolutely overrated.

Absolutely false. Espresso machine is more important. A good grinder starts at 300 ish while a good machine starts at around 3k.

Uncommon opinion.. Stop following the instructions of every shot. There is beauty in spontaneous inconsistencies of coffee.. embrace it…

I would never recommend a baratza grinder terrible reliability. A Turin will be more reliable. Grinder is definitely more important than espresso machine.
