@sprites_music1: Sprites is completely self taught and she has developed her own unique technique for playing the handpan. She even created names for certain movements and techniques, for example, “Quetchie” (something like “squishe” in English), which describes a note she squeezes into the rhythm. While playing she uses different types of these “squishes,” each with its own cute name. She has also developed a system for deciding which hand to use. Her melodies and rhythms are shared between both hands, unlike on the piano, where the left hand typically accompanies and the right plays the melody. The only exception is the percussive sound, which she consistently plays with the index finger of her right hand. It’s remarkable to witness her develop all of this without even being consciously aware of it. She simply plays, always following her intuition, and only later realizes that she has developed certain techniques. I believe her key is not thinking about the music while playing, but allowing it to flow. The moment we start thinking, we lose that connection ✨ We will soon be announcing our own line of handpans.
