Hmm LAST I CHECKED jet blue is also on the verge of bankruptcy now I wonder why? So that merger would’ve changed nothing lol.

Spirit has been loosing money yearly since 2020....the 2022 merge with jet blue would have kept them from this inevitable bankrupt state... I don't know how you don't understand that dude

But the JetBlue stuff is true, had JetBlue been allowed to buy it, a low cost carrier would still exist

AvGas was $2/gallon in January. It is $4/gallon now. A 100% increase in the cost of fuel is HUGE.

Jet Blue is also also close to bankruptcy. Merging them would have brought down Jet Blue with Spirit.

Please correct me if I'm wrong in my understanding
So if the merger had happened both airlines would have shut down as they are both small,
because it didn't happen, only Spirit shut down. No?

Spirit’s failed merger with JetBlue is cited as a primary cause for why it’s gone.

I was a big fan of the Biden DOJ use of trust busting powers but this one was a miss. They shouldn’t have gone after JetBlue/spirit, there were more pressing trusts to bust.

Airlines as a whole are failing. They have failed 2 times before. The government always just gives them a trillion dollars to keep running. It's why we don't have nationwide rail, because these flight companies spend billions of lobbying

They look at who.has what routes for monopoly. If Spirit and JB were the only ones flying certain routes, monopoly claims are valid.

1. If this merger went through JetBlue would be the company shutting down right now instead of spirit. 2. They were right in blocking the merger since all it would really do in practice is lower the number of planes in Spirit’s price bracket. JetBlue had zero intention of offering Spirit’s products. The only reason they wanted to buy them was because they would get 120 new planes which they would immediately replace all the interiors to JetBlue’s style and use them to compete with United and Delta. They were originally going to to merge with Frontier which would’ve probably gone through since they offer the same product, but JetBlue offered more money.

The part people don't forget is if Spirit would have merged with JetBlue, Spirit would have been gone anyway. The reason they didn't merge primarily is because they had too many overlapping routes which would take away from competition. When you have two competitors that operate the same routes merge it becomes one company and then they can charge whatever they want.
