@tilscience: Is python blood going to be the new Ozempic? Scientists from the University of Colorado identified the molecule that allows pythons to go weeks without eating and believe it could offer a more targeted treatment for weight loss with potentially less side effects than Ozempic Whether that will be the case or not will all depend on human trials which are a long way away from now. But this isn’t the first time we’ve turned to the animal world for medical inspiration. After all, the entire GLP-1 class, including Ozempic, was derived from Gila monster saliva 🤷🏽♀️ So let’s see who will win the battle between python v Gila monster Python blood just may be the new Ozempic. In fact, scientists think it has the potential to be even better than GLP1s with less side effects 👀 Study: Xiao, S., Wang, M., Martin, T.G. et al. Python metabolomics uncovers a conserved postprandial metabolite and gut–brain feeding pathway. OK, but as a big back myself.. having trouble losing weight is not a matter of being hungry or not hungry. It’s more so the enjoyment of tastes and flavors

To be fair if I swallowed a deer whole I’m pretty sure it would take a bit before I was hungry again

When I was in high school in the 1960s, the school guidance counselor never mentioned “python phlebotomist”. Maybe that’s why I ended up as a doctor. 😉👍🐍

While I LOVE science and all this is so neat, culturally, this would be taboo in my culture. 😬😬

I thought they figured this out a long time ago 🤔 I’ve taken Phentermine about 3-4x in my life and it completely eliminated all “I’m hungry” from my brain. I literally had to FORCE myself to eat. It also caused a massive uptick in water consumption.. I was thirsty for water all the time.. like urine was clear type of hydrated. But it is a particularly risky thing to take.. if you have heart problems at all you are not a candidate. It’s been a long time since I’ve looked it up but from what I remember, it’s hard on the heart. It’s like legal *rhymes with Beth* from what I hear 😬

Not the first medications to come from snakes! ACE-Inhibitors are some of the most commonly prescribed heart meds and they were developed from pit viper venom
