She’s my 3rd cousin on my mother’s side. The family hated her. I grieved that I never got to know her. But our family was all pastors. My grandmother was a Joplin.

My grandpa met Janis in a dive bar where she was performing before she made it big. They talked and laughed and drank together. My grandpa was a rough, sometimes judgmental man; he said she was the nicest hippie he’d ever met. He’s gone now. For some reason, I always thought Janis was there to greet him ♥️

My Momma loved her so much. She saw her perform once, Janis sat on the edge of the stage and looked at my Momma and said “This one’s for you sweetheart!” And sang “Me and Bobby McGee”. A few years back I met a woman who preserved films and had that exact moment and showed me…it was the most precious moment in my life now that my Momma is gone and I swear she is a copy of Janis.
