Part 3 of Thor’s journey! After Thor was rescued we made the shocking discovery that he has wire embedded in his leg. This was absolutely heartbreaking to know he had been in this condition and pain for so long. Our goal was to get the wire out but we couldn’t just throw him under complete sedation, with his body condition being so weak he could potently not make it through the surgery. With his calm demeanor and how mellow he had been despite everything gave us hope that we could possibly do the removal standing. It was risky but less risking than the other options we had and we all felt he would be enough of a gentleman to let us help him get out of pain. Dr. West gave him a very light sedative just to barley knock off any nerves he might have bad from new people and then gave him the localized injections to numb the whole area affected by the wire. Thor never truly gave us any fuss and held himself well through it all. In no time Dr. West had the wire in his hands and finally out of Thor’s leg. This was a relief to everyone and the fact we were able to do it while standing took away so much worry and risk. Thor held himself proudly as he walked to his stall where he would spend the next weeks that followed, he knew he was safe and he knew he had fresh hay and water waiting for him in a bed of soft dirt and shavings.
