@jake.pnw: DUNGENESS CRABS CARRY MILLIONS OF BABIES ‼️😱 Dungeness crabs are one of the most important commercial crabs on the West Coast, especially in Oregon, Washington, California, and Alaska. Every year, fishermen head into rough ocean conditions to catch them because they’re a major part of the seafood industry. They can also get pretty big. A large Dungeness crab can reach around 10 inches across the shell and weigh 2 to 3 pounds, sometimes even more. But here’s the crazy part: a single female Dungeness crab can carry over 2 million eggs under her body at one time. She protects them until they hatch into tiny larvae that drift through the ocean before eventually growing into bottom-crawling crabs. And one more wild fact: Dungeness crabs can regrow lost legs and claws when they molt. So if one survives losing a limb, it can actually replace it over time. Millions of eggs. Armor-plated bodies. Regrowing limbs. These crabs are way crazier than people realize. #Learning #Education #Animals #Nature
