Building a life you know how to enjoy without the money is one thing, but building extra income so retirement isn’t just “not rich but managing” — that’s the piece I’m still working on. Different half of the same puzzle.💪

59 (UK) now, retired at 55 and I love it, tomorrow is pub Wednesday my favourite day of the week, I meet my friend who retired at 54 for dinner and the afternoon in the pub, some Wednesdays we catch a train or coach and visit a different town. My wife has just turned 50 we are planning for her to retire at 55 also. We still have teenagers which makes this more expensive but have no mortgage, debt or car payments. I love my freedom and still have too much to do to be bored, currently decorating my daughter’s bedroom. No regrets 🙂

I am trying out my budget for this year and intend to retire next April. I have reduced my desired spend to what I need at £2,200 per month. Saving the rest. I will be 62 so whilst using savings and reduced pension. Only 5 years before I no longer need to top up from savings.

So how much is enough? We know we could live a simple life but how much do high need per annum for that? That’s the bit we’re struggling to work out.

I retired at 45 with enough. Not wealthy, not rich but enough for me to life the balanced life. So few people don’t fully understand this and it’s such a shame. Life is to be lived and that’s not all about money 🥰

I couldn’t retire tomorrow if I wanted too and I am 62! You say you aren’t rich but you have enough to be able to retire so yes you are! I would love to retire but who would pay my rent and life

I couldn't agree with you more ... my husband and I both took early retirement at 57, we're not rich but have no mortgage or debts either. We have enough monthly income to live on and use our lump sums and savings if we want to go on holiday. We've cut back on some luxury things, but it's definitely worth it not to have to get up 5 days a week for work, being told what to do, working with some people we don't like and generally putting up with bullshit. Tomorrow isn't promised and nobody knows when their time is up. The real measure of wealth is disposable measure of time 😊

I was forced to sell my home and now renting, I've not really worked since so it's either a sabbatical or semi retirement 🤔 I'm not sure what to do now and at least I've got a small lump sum to sustain me while I decide. Most people's money is tied up in their property and they feel poor working from payday to payday, different while raising kids but now it's my time.

Quench & Conquer :
I think we're beginning to see those who planned a retirement and those who didn't. I'm between worlds, I took ten years out to raise my children, so I have to wait and I'm knackered at 54, but it was the choice I made, my pension won't be big, it's not enough to continue to help support my children, like work currently does. I'll retire when they're sorted.
