I worked in Philly schools for a year and Ngl the “cancel prom” makes me particularly mad. Once you sit and listen to these kids talk they are going through SO MUCH. Why is everyone’s first thought to take something else away from them?

Also note! They’re now rebuilding libraries in schools. For the last ten years… libraries in schools have just been meeting rooms or storage space in the public school system. I just wanted everyone to know that on top of what’s going on.

They keep trying to make it a personal or parental issue or teacher issue, but if the teacher isn't paid enough and has to fund their classroom. How much can get done? like seriously. This is a government problem.

I say this all the time!! I know people my age that BARELY made it through school and are now having kids who also struggle in school as well. It’s a cycle

It has always been a government problem especially with the Philly schools. The Philly schools really got bad after bush. I was a sub in Philly before Covid and these schools were terrible.

little things we can do!! support local indie bookstores, orgs like books behind bars, donate your old books to local middle & high schools, when its election time google who is running for school board and etc in your district and give an informed vote on the “little” elections we usually ignore at the bottom of the ballot!
