The reason they won't want to work on this engine is because, you replace the head gasket and then discover that the main bearings need to be replaced, then you discover that there are other seals that need to be replaced. And then you head down the rabbit hole. that's what he's used

I have a 2013 Lexus ct200h with same engine and had the same problem. Put a complete rebuilt engine in it for $1600 and has been running perfect ever since. Dropped it off after work, they sent me a picture of the engine out of the car when I got home and picked it up after work the next day. It was unbelievable. Worth every cent and getting 44 mpg. I’m on Los Angeles

I have a 2013 Prius that is my daily. 180k. A tree limb fell on it during hurricane Helene and dented a bunch of body panels which effectively totaled it. I retained it and still drive it every day. The ABS accumulator is bad and that repair is worth more than the car, even if I fixed it myself so I continue to drive it with no ABS or power assist brakes and will continue to drive it until this thing completely dies because at this point, it’s not worth putting any money into it aside from brakes and tires and oil changes.

Since it’s a hybrid the motor technically doesn’t have 350k. It only runs half the time.. Do better Toyota. Jk lol

common problem with that year. EGR carbons up and creates a hot spot that results in a head gasket. i'd honestly do a head gasket on it, clean/replace the EGR, and send it.

3rd gen prius known issues after 200k miles, 2nd Gen prius goes 500k miles plus 3rd gen had cooling issues, im a hybrid battery tech and worked on thousandssss of these at this point

From experience, I would trust a 350k mile factory toyota engine with a new head gasket vs a new reman

It’s 13 years old and it lives in a harsh environment. 350k miles is more than enough for a lower priced car.

Did plenty of head gaskets, never had one comeback. Re ringed a few for oil consumption. Also no comebacks. Buy it, fix it. Good to go for another 10 years

Just had my head gasket replaced on a 2013, it’s a $300 gasket and 8 hours tops labor. Nothing complicated and if you see worn timing chain or sprockets you swap them out since they are coming off anyway. I’m surprised you wouldn’t fix.

Yeah but I bet the cluster and radio screen have already failed and Toyota wanted more money than that motor to fix.

did a head gasket on our 2015 prius - 150,000 miles...it was showing any problems we noticed but the mechanic said ir needed it

Had this exact same Prius, ours did it at 250K. Apparently it’s a known issue on this generation due to the EGR clogging. We ended up just swapping the engine with a JDM import and got another 75K before the brake booster went.
