You might have already tried this, but have you thought about bringing some progressive veterans to talk to your dad? As a vet sometimes hearing it from a fellow vet is the only way to get through.

I get tired of people saying the conversation is no longer necessary. Dad is of course a lost cause but these 2 kids have done damn near everything they can to save their mom and it just might work. Respect to them for ignoring the noice and trusting their know their mom and what’s worth it to them.

I feel like mum was just never allowed to think / make her own decisions and just had to have dads view. she is now taking the time to think things through on her own and logically make designs.

I think the issue is your mom has always loved and trusted your dad. She spends/spent most of her time with him and she wasn’t hearing other perspectives and blindly adopted his opinions on things. This can happen to anyone. More conversations and exposure to other thoughts and opinions will continue to benefit your mom. She may always be conservative, but she shows promise in being more open minded and educates

Some people literally cannot imagine or empathize another person’s reality without being able to relate with their personal experiences. Because of that the closest they can get to hopefully understand is to speak directly with a source. They can develop empathy for a person they know. That’s why the conversation with Peppermint was progressive.
