Xinjiang is an autonomous region in China, home to diverse ethnic groups, dramatic landscapes, and some of the most culturally unique areas in the country. Today I’m traveling up to Tianshan Tianchi, which translates to “Heavenly Lake of the Heavenly Mountains.” At the entrance, you can easily buy tickets using the Trip . com kiosk, which makes everything super convenient. Right nearby is Ma-ya Mountain, named “Horse Teeth Mountain” because of its sharp, jagged peaks! I came at the perfect time, right at the start of the season, when the ice has just melted and the lake opens up. That means you can actually get out on the water, with boats running across the lake for one of the best views in the area. To get there, it’s a bit of a journey, but all included in your ticket.
