the most offensive thing for me was the fact shes wearing a corset without a chemise or shift under it! 😄

I think it’s an interesting idea but I’d have been more impressed if the gown was a closer representation of the original portrait. At least loose the front lacing gap and not keen on the neckline. If the shoulder bits had been only just off the shoulders it would have flowed better imo. But all this is coming from a costume historian who also did a tiny bit of fashion design so each to their own 😆

I saw your original video and didn't comment because I was annoyed at you for being offended at someone for ysing British history as inspiration.
I loved the history lesson and you being open to opinions and feedback is honestly beautiful.
I like to say "we are all entitled to our wrong opinions" mostly to wind people up but its also a true statement 🥰🥰🥰

how would you feel about someone having lady jane grey’s painting as a tattoo?

Exactly! That is the nature of historiography and being a historian is to view an event/object through as many lenses as possible and gather as much information as you can to come to a consensus. And that consensus is always subject to change with new info.

I’m not going to lie, part of me just wonders if they picked this painting because lady Jane Grey shared the same last name as Rachel’s most popular character and they didn’t look much beyond that🤔

Thank you for addressing the phrasing, it was the only part that I vehemently disagreed with :)

I would say thank you for the lady Jane history as I would have never understood the full story of her just by the painting

personally I think you're right. partly because I used to live near Bradgate Park which I believe was her childhood home (Lady Jane Grey that is) ❤️

I think it’s an insult to her, she would have NEVER dressed like this. I can appreciate her inspiration and wanting to highlight her - but this makes me sad, if she dressed like this she would’ve been called a w h ore, harlot etc and she certainly was not … poor girl, caught as a pawn and lost her life for it 💔🥺

Maybe the stylist chose this variation to make people think about putting children in situations they aren't mature enough for. Idk just a thought

I think there are other paintings she could have recreated, not a 17 year old getting led to death.

It doesn’t capture the tragedy of the painting. To me, it’s a white dress and they whacked a blindfold on it and thought “that’ll do”. Also I agree, it was on the sexy side.

This feels a bit like a strange argument people are being mad at you about. You can be upset at a woman attempting to portray a child in the most traumatic of moments in a what that shows off her figure in such a way. There’s a whole aspect to society where women also help over sexualize children but a level of feminism will put women’s free choice of sexuality over children. Which is a nuanced situation. Understanding that it’s meant to portray her own victimhood actually makes the look even more uninspired looking. She could have easily had a dress more similar to Lady Jane Greys that also mimicked a Snow White dress. That plunging line down her body really does nothing unless they created a stressed look to a corset to represent being forced to conform to was something she was breaking free from or suffering from. 🤷🏽♀️
