I'm 30 living with my parents, but that's cause it's too expensive to live alone even with a full time job. But I pay all my bills (phone, car, student loans, etc) and buy all groceries while doing household chores and errands. We laugh that I'm essentially a live-in maid, but it works for us all.

my husband works a minimum of 50 hours a week, so I can stay home with our kids.
once the kids are grown I'll be getting a part time job so my husband doesn't have to work as hard. I couldn't imagine trying to force this life on him at 55

Only reason I live a remotely comfortable life is because I live at home, that said I do still have my own bills to pay (i.e. car payments and such) NTA

as someone 38 years old... I've worked 60+ hours a week since I was 18... it sucks but unfortunately we be working that for 40 years and not have half of what this man was able to give his family. not saying he shouldn't be allowed to back off now that his main responsibilities is over... but as someone who works juat as many hours as this guy and know i'll never have a light at the end of the tunnel like him. 🤷♀️

it's not even 56 hours a week it's more but he rests for 3 weeks which is arguably better in some ways but definitely harder on your body.

Bruh for what I would give to have a dad like that lol. I’m disabled and I’m on disability. When big medical expenses come up I can only rely on my mom. My dad will not help me at all. I’ve asked for help paying for orthotics…my step mom felt bad and sent me $100. I’ve asked for help with paying for a surgery that isn’t covered but necessary. Nope. I’ve asked for help to pay for supplements that aren’t covered but are important for my health…nope.

My parents said we could live at home rent free as long as we were making 'forward progress'. College, trade school, internship, saving for a down payment for a house. But if we were just working and not doing anything else we'd have to pay rent. It motivated us while still helping us when we needed it.

I lived with my parents until I was 27 but I worked and payed for part of my studies, bought my own car and saved for my first apartment so when I moved I was able to handle all the costs and furnishing of my place on my own. sounds like those kids need to experience that studio apartment lifestyle ✨

I don't work, my portion of rent is covered by assistance and I also get money from assistance
I give my parents half the money I get and thats not much but I don't ask my parents for money hell I'd give them all the money I ever got if they asked

this is why the minute your kid is over 18 and out of school but still living at home, they should be working and paying their part of the living expenses (rent put in a separate account for you to help with first and last or put aside to help with a down payment).

I’m 20 living with my sister, 23 where we split everything 50/50 and for some reason if she doesn’t have all of her half I’ll pay out of my pocket and the same for her, we also help our parents with their bills and it all just works for us, we all have jobs so

I lived with my parents until I was 30-32 because I couldn’t have afforded it on my own. I paid my bills and that’s all I had money for. They decided to downsize, and they turned a shop into a house for them. While also helping my sister convert another shop into a house for her. She’s moved into her house and I was finally able to refinance the house in my name due to being able to be at a much better job. Sometimes you want to save, but you can’t. You have emergency stuff come up that wipes out what you have saved. Which we all help each other. If my parents needed help, we helped with bills and they would help us if they could.
