We, in the modern day, are coddled, pampered with luxuries, but are not subject to real pain: pain that would shape up, mold us, into radical beings. Pain is necessary for transcendence. By pain, I mean constructive pain. Pain that, by its liberatory properties, exposes us to reality as it is—a raw, unfiltered reality. Take as an example pain when training. This kind of pain awakens us to the realities of our body: its limits, its growth, and its weakness, produced by gluttony and sendentariness. We must endure pain for the higher ideals. Pain, as it is, is not only a way to view reality, but a river to transform.
