📍 @syrianacardiff, City Road 🇸🇾 City Road is a foodie’s dream - it is a melting pot of different cuisines. So when I heard that Syriana, one of the Syrian restaurants, had started serving breakfast, I knew I had to check it out. Here’s what we ordered: • Breakfast Platter (£25.98 for two) • Eggs with Sucuk • Syriana Eggs • Falafel • Fresh Apple Juice • Arabic Coffee Let’s start with the breakfast platter, this is made up of: foul mudamas, Damascene fatteh, a cheese mix, labneh, pickles and fresh veg, mixed olives, jam, butter, honey and clotted cream, omelette, and manaqeesh za’atar, and manaqeesh muhammara with cheese. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite deliver for me. The veggies were fresh and the bread was nice, but the platter felt unbalanced. It lacked any real protein - and the only item that was meant to provide that (the omelette) was missing entirely. We were also given the two manaqeesh after we’d finished eating - again, items that had been forgotten - but honestly, on their own, they didn’t do much for us. They might’ve worked better as part of the full platter experience, but eaten solo, they fell flat. To top it off, I don’t think the price tag of nearly £26 is justified for what is essentially a medley of vegetables and dips, especially with some of the more substantial components missing. It might be a better fit for a warm climate where lighter breakfasts are the norm and I can see it appealing to vegetarians but it just wasn’t my thing. Now, onto the highlights. The eggs with sucuk were the standout for me. The eggs were cooked to perfection, and the sucuk added a beautiful savoury kick. If you go, this is the dish I’d recommend trying - full of flavour and satisfying. The Syriana eggs were also done well though a bit heavy on the tomato for my taste. That said, if you’re a tomato fan, you might really enjoy it. As for the apple juice and Arabic coffee - both solid, no complaints with the taste but £9.90 for two apple juices also isn’t very reasonable to me. If you’re heading to Syriana for breakfast, I’d say skip the platter and go straight for the individual dishes - especially the sucuk and eggs. That’s where the real flavour lies. #food #Foodie #foodblogger #foodblog #cardifffoodie #cardifffoodguide #cardifffoodspots #cardifffoodblogger #cardifffoodies #cardifffood #cardiffhalalfood #halalfoodcardiff #cardiffbrunch #halalbreakfast #halalbreakfastcardiff #cardiffbreakfast #syrianbreakfast
