@redhandedthepod: Zombies didn’t start in Hollywood, it was a way to control slaves. In Haiti, enslaved Africans lived under such brutal conditions that death would feel like the only escape. But they were told those who took their own lives would be trapped in their bodies, condemned to work the plantations for eternity. Comprehension is important, she didn’t say plantation owners invented zombies, but that plantation owners made up telling their slaves zombies if they took their own lives because anyone knew anything you would know like you’re all saying zombies existed specially in African culture so this laborers knew this they would turn into that you do amount before hand from their countries of origin. they need a thing. You are talking to being up too she didn’t say a sleigh in zombies. You all are being obtuse and clueless.

17th-18th Century (Haitian Origin): African slaves in Haiti (then Saint-Domingue) developed the concept. The folklore held that people who died by suicide would be condemned to exist as walking dead (zombies) for eternity, enslaved by a bokor (voodoo sorcerer. but I thought voodoo was a closed practice so we're other slaves threatening to do the ritual? or is this implying that the white colonizer was a voodoo priest?

i don't hear anything in this video claiming this iteration of zombies to be the origin, she's saying they made it up as a fear tactic, and the description is saying movies weren't the start of the idea and referred to this fact as another way the idea was used. Wonder if we have proof the colonizers stole this idea from other cultures instead of negating the misery people had to go through under slavery. i feel like the former would reveal a lot more truth than the latter.

I’ve heard that there are origins of legends about zombies dating back hundreds of years in African Tribes folklore way from way before.

Idk where you heard that but its widely knowm that modern zombie lore comes from Hatian/Voodoo folklore where conjuremen would bring someone back from the dead to do their bidding.
