September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and this one is deeply personal to me. 🤍 A few years ago, I spent 13 days in an inpatient mental health facility. I was hurting in ways I didn’t know how to explain, and I genuinely believed the people I loved might be better off if I wasn’t here. But that pain didn’t begin there. I carried so much from growing up — being adopted, spending part of my childhood in a children’s home, feeling like I missed pieces of having a family and a home, and experiencing things I didn’t know how to process at such a young age. For a long time, I tried asking for help, and it felt like no one came. The pain showed up in ways I didn’t know how to handle. I hurt myself. I carried hurt, abuse, loneliness, and things people said without knowing what was happening behind closed doors. My self-worth became so low and the voice inside my head became so loud that I couldn’t imagine life ever being different. But it was. I stayed long enough to fall in love. To get married. To build a home and a little family. To travel, laugh, find things I love, start over, and experience so many ordinary moments I almost didn’t get to have. Healing didn’t erase what happened to me. But I know something now I wish I could have told that version of myself: The way life feels in your darkest moment is not a prediction of the life waiting for you. There were people I hadn’t met yet. Places I hadn’t been. Love I hadn’t experienced. Versions of myself I hadn’t become. I’m really glad I stayed. 🤍 If you’re somewhere in that darkness right now, please tell someone. And if the first person doesn’t hear you, tell someone else. Keep asking. You deserve the chance to find out what else your story holds. Please stay. There is still so much you haven’t seen yet. 🤍 If you’re in the U.S. and struggling or in crisis, call or text 988. #SuicidePreventionMonth #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthAwareness #YouAreNotAlone #988Lifeline
