Some References can sabotage a candidate chance same way if they swing either way and they dont speak to ways the candidate is trying to improve on the weakness.

If I ask you to tell me your greatest weakness and you mentioned Excel, you’re out. That’s not a weakness that’s a a skill that you either have or need to learn. A good answer would be sometimes I can come off as negative. As an analyst, it is my job to look for problems and highlight them so we can solve them. I’m always looking at a better way to present the information I find in a positive manner

I always say my weakness is that I can argue both sides to a problem. Sometimes I feel like I come across indecisive but I hope it shows that I like to get to where I make the right decision. Help

Hate this question but have used it as a bit of a barometer with some success. I use this as a means to open up about my struggles with ADHD and how much I’ve improved now that I’m medicated with metric based improvements. This gives me insight into how they respond to vulnerability and mental health issues. I’m privileged enough to not HAVE to take a role if it doesn’t align and if they fail this question for me I know it’s not a good fit

I recently interviewed initially with corporate HR, then a 3 person regional team, then in-person. Not once was I asked that question and it was amazing! They presented scenarios and all of our conversations flowed organically. That’s how interviews should go! Companies need to be aware that candidates are also gauging if the company fits our expectations.
