This comment section obviously isn’t married or related to a teacher. No breaks are paid for, compensation is spread out. No benefits are paid for, my wife pays $300/per pay for our family insurance. She makes under 50k/yr and she’s been there for 5 yrs.

Public Ed is built on unpaid overtime. What other job requires you to work outside of work to get ready for the work you’re going to do while at work. If teachers were paid by the same model as lawyers (billable hours) this would be a very different conversation.

In my town, kindergarten teachers make $100k. I have checked. I pay a boatload of taxes and we have wonderful teachers.

50k. my wife doesn't get paid for the lesson plans she develops after hours or over the summer. she has to pay to decorate her room, which she's required to do. she supplies the pencils, tissues, etc. a portion of her pay goes to the substitute if she has to take a sick day or pto day for a doctor appointment. she still has to make the lesson plan for her day off. my wife works from 7am to 3. then works from 3-9pm to grade work and plan for upcoming day's lessons. listen, I used to be the guy against teachers protesting. but then I married one and realized what they deal with

I know a retired teacher who made 70,000 a year. yes she does hold a masters. But not bad for an elementary teacher.
