For $160 we got an aesthetic wood-interior room and full access to the 4-star sister ryokan next door. If you stay in Yamanouchi, whether in an Airbnb or a hotel, you can purchase a pass for around $3 that gives you access to the onsen facilities in all participating hotels… went there absolutely worth it !

That sounds literally perfect! Our only regret from Hakone was that we didn't get to experience enough of the local cuisine because of our kaiseki meals (which were amazing but still)
