Ngl my hair grew the longest when I was swimming. My washing/rinsing my hair more often allowed it to keep moisture

Lol as a ex swimmer and lifeguard/swim instructor idk who told ppl it keeps your hair dry. Its to move it out the way and create less friction when moving through the water!

The swim cap is to reduce drag in the water, and allow you to glide better, not to keep your hair dry. Personally, i move my wash day to the day that i swim, so its simpler for me.

Rinse your hair at home before getting in the pool so you hair doesn’t only absorb chlorinated water.

My hair actually became healthier when I took lessons because I was taking care of it more. 1) always soak your hair beforehand and put some oil to create a barrier 2) MUST use a chlorine removing shampoo after (ultraswim brand is cheap), then regular shampoo, then conditioner.

I use to work at a swim school. Pre rinse your hair for 5-30 min depending on how long it takes your hair to absorb water, the more water it absorbs the less pool water it will take in, also I leave a conditioner on my hair before I get in the pool. Yes it will rinse out a bit in the pool but its better than damaged hair plus if you are using the cap anyway it wont be so noticeable. Lastly braid your hair instead of the bun, you dont want the bun to get tangled and the swimcap will be flatter to your skin.

I have been a swimmer my whole life so let me hold your hand when I tell u swim caps were never meant to keep your hair dry they were meant to decrease drag when competitively swimming. The best thing I can tell you is wet your hair before and put in a hair mask the swim cap can act as a shower cap lock in the heat. That is what saved my hair

I used to be a lifeguard and girl you’re going to have to WASH your hair. Do not leave chlorine in your hair. I was washing my hair and heated deep conditioning my hair. My hair grew that summer I guess that was the only plus 😭

also wet your hair before going into the water. like pre- soak it so it absorbs less chlorine and smake sure you use a Clarifying Shampoo when you do wash it to get all the chemicals out. this helps reduce the damage and what a lot of swimmers do

swim caps weren’t meant to keep your hair dry. they were meant to help you be more streamline when swimming so you’re faster and swim more efficiently

I tried two different swim caps, shower caps, headbands. Nothing worked. Just had to build in washing afterwards. Congrats on learning though! It's worth it. ☺️

Before I get in the pool I dampen my hair slightly, and then apply coconut oil. It saved me from going bald and blonde like I did in middle school😭

So swim caps are not for keeping hair dry, they are to keep your hair out of the pool and increase aerodynamics. I’m Black and was a competitive swimmer as a kid. I recommend putting your hair in a few manageable braids, and then when ur done in the pool immediately go shower and wash your hair. I usually shampoo in the braids and then condition/detangle and put the braids back in. I have dense 4c hair and I’ve managed to perfect a 25-30 min shampoo+condition+detangle regiment. And then I style the next day lol.

As someone who used to competitively swim, my go-to was mini braids, but if you like to wear out, I’d wear medium/large Bantu knots (no added hair for either). Both can last underwater, the former is easy to wash and moisturize in the braids and the latter is already pre-sectioned and easy to take out when you want to wash and style, especially if you make the parts large.

Swim caps aren’t for keeping your hair dry, it’s to prevent dragging when you swim

Try mini braids so it’s easier to wash and you’ll still have a cute style😊

Point of a swim cap is not to keep your hair dry in the first place. They were made to reduce drag while swimming.

I was on the swim team growing up and one of the things that helped me was to put conditioner on my hair before I put this one cap on what it does is it acts as a little protective layer against the chlorine if you’re swimming constantly

Everybody keep saying it’s not supposed to keep your hair dry. I’m taking swim lessons once a week so I just moved my wash day to the day of class. But I also ended up buying a swim cap and the first time I used it the only part of my hair that was wet was the back.
