@culturagrega: Charilaos Trikoupis (1832–1896) was a prominent Greek statesman who served as Prime Minister seven times between 1875 and 1895. He is recognized for his efforts to modernize Greece’s infrastructure, leading major projects such as the construction of the Corinth Canal, the expansion of the national railway network, and the initial proposal for a bridge connecting Rio and Antirrio. While his policies focused on technical and institutional progress, the high cost of these investments contributed to the state’s financial bankruptcy in 1893. His statue at the National Historical Museum in Athens (or Old Parliament House) features an inscription of his famous parliamentary statement: "Greece wants to live and will live." #CharilaosTrikoupis #atenas #Greece #Athens #History
