The U.S.’s whole goal was to contain communism during the cold war era. In the Korean war they did just that by pushing back the North all the way back to the 38th parallel. Another example of the U.S. trying to contain communism is Vietnam which ultimately failed but the point is still there. And yea both sides end up stalemating but the U.S. accomplished their goal of containing communism in Korea. Also the war was only lasted 3 years long which is relatively short which might be why they don’t talk about it much.

Peninsula, not island. They were not unified for centuries. They were under Russian and Japanese Imperial rule the 70-80 years prior to WW2
