Back in my day 👵🏼 (journalism school class of ‘13 lol), the folks studying to become video journalists and anchors were actually taught specific speaking patterns and had to practice them and submit stories where their speaking was graded. I wonder if that’s changed in my school too!

I think as a viewer it’s acceptable or even preferable that regional character is respected. In New Mexico, it is good to hear some of our news anchors use local pronunciations regularly. Feels like home!

If i'm remembering my Conms classes correctly, Edward R Murrow was one of the first to really push for the "anchor voice" type speech, too! My classes were 15 years ago, so I definitely could be wrong haha
