The Battle of Al-Faw was one of the most intense and significant battles of the Iran–Iraq War during the 1980s. It is defined as a series of major military operations over the strategic Al-Faw Peninsula, which serves as Iraq's main gateway to the Arabian Gulf. Iraqi forces, including the Republican Guard and special units, carried out a fast and heavily coordinated assault supported by artillery and air power. Under the field leadership that included Bariq Al-Haj Hunta as a key pillar, the Iraqi army managed to achieve this historic mission in just 35 hours, which is classified as one of the fastest military operations in modern warfare history given the complexity of the geography and the scale of the forces involved. After fierce fighting, Iraq successfully regained full control of Al-Faw in a short period of time. The Battle of Al-Faw became a symbol of the brutality and scale of the Iran–Iraq War. It remains one of the most remembered battles in modern Iraqi military history because of its strategic importance, massive destruction, and the sacrifices made by soldiers on both sides.
