Need to get something off my chest… About two weeks ago, I received a letter from a very special and incredibly strong person. It touched me in every single way and brought me back to my perspective on why I do what I do. This brave woman wrote to me that she was about to take her own life, and that this song gave her something to hold onto in that moment. Now, let me be very clear: I’m not writing this because I think I’m even 1% responsible for saving her. That was her own strength, her own strong mind, and her unbelievable willpower. But reading those words did change something in me. She described how the lyrics helped her through a time of unbearable loneliness and loss. And while I was reading her letter, it hit me deep in my bones. It brought me to tears, because when you’re doing this music thing, it’s so easy to forget why you do it. Not for the numbers. Not to sell out venues. Not for the streams. But to connect with people who are dealing with REAL emotions. I’m not someone who claims to have all the answers. Not even close. But I do feel like we tend to forget what really matters sometimes. or at least, I know I do. It’s so important to ask someone how they’re feeling. To ask how their day has been. Even if it’s a stranger. Even if it’s someone you barely know. Connection is all we have. It makes us stronger, more whole, and, at the end of the day, better human beings. That letter reminded me of why I am who I am. Not to take, but to give. To create. To connect. So, to the person who wrote that letter (you know who you are ) thank you. You changed my life that day. You are the true hero. And to everybody else: let’s wake up tomorrow and be a little kinder to each other. Let’s listen. Let’s ask questions. Let’s be there for one another, even when it’s hard sometimes.
