@beccsbrunson: and then I put my mom on a pedestal because in comparison to him she was so much better, and then I got older and realized she enabled his loser behavior #family #dad #familydrama
My biggest childhood flex, I am 67, is that in our household mama had the power and the final word. My dad was not a hero or perfect but he knew that his wife was the one to listen to regarding most things.

The only time my husband has the authority to say “no” is if I wanted to say no but don’t want to be blamed for it 😂

I grew up with my father deferring every decision to my mother. We only asked my dad if my mom was completely unavailable. I literally don’t understand households were the mom is not in charge of decisions.

I think that the majority of adults around our age have the exact same memory regarding this specific dynamic. And the only answer I can think of is progress. Bit by bit. Their role was to teach us exactly what we weren't going to perpetuate.

Yes! My dad tried this, and is part of the reason that my parents ended up divorced. My mom had a lot of opinions, and he didn’t like that.

My Mom would say “ Ask your Dad” My Dad would say “ Ask your Mom then whoever was the last parent asked would make the decision and the other would agree. My Mom was a SAHM but they both had equal authority and got equal respect

Yeah growing up, my mom was the boss and my dad made the money. As a child, it seemed like she had the final say in things and he just supported her no matter what.
