There’s something beautiful about a collection that makes you feel this way when it’s gone. When my ex cheated I turned to poetry to cope with the grief. One of my favorite lines was “Your body is gone, but You remain, the fire rages on, refusing to burn Your Name.” Because I couldn’t hate her even if I tried, I have every right to feel the raging inferno but it never singed her name, only my heart was charred. The only wrong she did was cheat, was not speak to me about things that could’ve been better, the what ifs of it all still haunt me even though I’ve found another love that’s healthier and a deeper connection than I ever had with that ex. The issue isn’t that you’ll never find that connection again, the issue is that the past still haunts us. Grief cannot be cured simply by replacing the love. Grief clings to us the way we cling to love. And in all of that healing I’ve learned one thing: grief and love can and do coexist. I hope you find someone who will have the conversations, who will listen to you ramble, who will be there to hear you in disagreements or fights, I hope you find a healthy love. In the meantime, keep healing, keep rambling like you’re doing, letting it out even in a vlog diary style like this is one of the healthiest ways we can cope with the grief. Stay safe, take care, and know that love will find its way back.
