On an only slightly unrelated tangent, today’s Turkish empire has benefited the most from all of the geopolitical atrocities happening these last few years on both sides of the aisle (they just brokered an energy deal between Ukraine, Syria and Jordan). There’s zero visibility for the crimes the Turkish empire is continuing to commit against Armenians, Sudanese, etc. The sheer amount of good will Turkey has picked up not only bc of Hasan but bc of how little people care about that empire’s victims is horrifying and foreboding. It does us no good to view things merely in terms of the lens of whiteness (this isn’t disagreeing with your point at all, only adding to it) because then we ignore atrocities committed by empires traditionally cast outside the sphere of whiteness like Russian, Chinese, Iranian, Turkish, etc.
