no you’re absolutely right. in the book, elio is completely embarrassed and ashamed of oliver seeing what he did.

That movie changed my brain chemistry when I first watched at 14, still one of the most beautiful pieces I’ve ever watched. The soundtrack, the cinematography, the fathers monologue, god I wish I could rewatch it again for the first time

I got the point as someone who is queer but the scene itself scared me.

people joke about it but genuinely it’s such a beautiful expression of being queer and struggling with your sexuality/gender i think it’s a beautiful scene

It’s the combination of the shame of being queer and of wanting to be with Oliver too. Then the vulnerability of it, I mean he’s still so young and is experiencing so much for the first time. It’s a really beautiful scene, I rewatched the movie when they played it in theatres in February and I’m glad everyone there seemed to feel the same way, no one laughed or made any remarks.

it’s literally so incredibly sad the way he cries and gets so embarrassed and confused afterward once he got caught

We’re just more in tune with our feelings, the whole film is about yearning, intimacy and loss, they just don’t get it. Have you been called “too sensitive”? Yeah I thought so 🤭

DollHades :
the peach scene is so important in the book, because its a metaphor. he sees in the peach both Martia and Oliver, and in the book he is more conflicted between the two of them. there is a big introspective piece were he thinks about everything that the peach means, from generations of his family taking care of the tree, to his own love life. its 3/4 pages long
