@ellewaslike: Hi from a park in the middle of a Thursday because why the f not 👋🏻 You know what’s weird? I used to think having a 9-5 was the be-all and end-all. I grew up being told to get an office job, go to uni, work for a reputable company, stay there for years, get benefits, climb the ladder etc. And if you didn’t want that? You just weren’t ambitious enough. I remember seeing people out in the middle of the day sitting in parks, grabbing coffee, going for walks, at the beach, just living life and I used to always wonder… HOWWW and what do these people do?! 😭 How are they here right now while I’m at work, rushing between deadlines under fluorescent lighting. I started working at 14. Newsrooms, offices, long days, structure, stress. That was my normal for a very long time. But the older I get, the more I realise a lot of the stuff we’re taught to chase isn’t actually the dream. That dream of working in TV and eventually becoming a presenter? Nah thanks. That dream of becoming the group editor of an international publication and pulling ridiculous overtime to cover breaking news? Also nah thanks. I’ve done the long hours. I’ve done the stress. I’ve done the rushing around. I’ve seen and done a lot. You know what I value now? Freedom. Having the freedom to go sit in a park in the middle of the day if I want to. Go for a walk during the work week. Work from a cafe because I can. Have a coffee without looking at the time every 4 seconds. Not be chained to a desk. Not because I don’t want to work hard. I actually love working. But I work differently now. The biggest thing that’s changed over the past year is realising I just don’t want to put up with extra bullshit anymore. Now I own a company. Now I choose who I work with. Now I choose how I structure my life. And honestly? This is the dream. #dubaiexpat #dubaidiaries #dubailife #aussieabroad #entrepreneurlife
