People are not all the same. For example, in South Germany they are way warmer than people in North Italy. I’m Italian from South Italy.

Living in Germany made me literally hug our helpers/assistants when vacationing back home in Southeast Asia. When the kindness shown to me by some random person on the street made me burst into tears, that’s when I instantly realized how truly different the social milieu is in Germany (and/or Western/Northern Europe as I don’t believe such phenomenon is unique in DE).

I completely relate to everything you said. We will leave Germany in a few months for a Mediterranean country, and honestly I’m already dreaming about it. The passive aggressiveness, coldness, and lack of warmth here have really worn me down over time. I’ve realized my peace of mind and being around kinder, more human interactions matter more to me than any financial benefits. Living in this environment every day can slowly drain you.

Moved out from Germany 2 years ago, i regret not doing it sooner tbh. The social aspect was not a main driver but yes, i felt very much taken a back at how normal humane social interactions can be in my new country of residence.

This also applies within Germany. I have lived in Germany (only in Nuremberg) for seven years and leaving Bayern to go to Cologne or Düsseldorf feels like leaving the country.
