As a critical care paramedic, we have protocols for deploying chest tubes in the field. However, our service does not carry plurevacs due to cost, and have made the switch to Foley catheter collection bags to attach to the chest tube and be fed by gravity. What’s your opinion on gravity controlled chest tubes as a field intervention, rather than just performing a finger thoracostomy?
