i got asked, "if you're not happy, why are you still here?" my answer was: "because the tuition reimbursement benefit says I have to stay for 5 years or pay back" ... followed by "if we forgive it, would you stay" , "no" ... that day was my last day, without having to payback

I don't know what they're are hoping to achieve with that question. What is the goal? If I say I am happy, when they know I'm not, is the purpose to cow me into submission? To me, it's an aggressive question meant to provoke you. I guess if I'm ever asked again, I'd say that happiness is an irrelevant factor to my continued employment.

Yep, after complaining they bait and switched by role (big time)…like we hired a sales rep but we’re having you be a custodian …sr mgmt said this. I diverted and said this isn’t about being happy it’s about allowing me to do the job you advertised & we talked 4 rounds of interviews about.

I had my boss say this to me and she was the VP of HR! She also told me I could find my own replacement. Once I tried to escalate, I was told she was just trying to be nice. I quit

Oh we had a new hire who reported to me and my boss was like “is she even happy here?” And I was new too and it just was such strange thing to say/ who cares if someone is happy??? It’s WORK.

I had a toxic manager tell me i could go work at another location if i was so unhappy - i responded by asking why she thought i was unhappy- she had no response.

I told my manager my workload was unsustainable and she asked me if I ‘even’ liked the role anymore. Like… yes??? Just not with twice as much work as we’re supposed to have????

I didn’t bother waiting to be asked. I walked into the bosses office and flat out said “I am wildly unhappy here.” I offered actual viable solutions, saying “I’m not trying to leave, I’m trying to make it so I want to stay.” I didn’t stay.

I haven't heard it yet, but there's similar vibes in my workplace with leadership not understanding why people are stressed and burnt out because the job is supposed to be happy and fun. And instead of genuine curiosity about why so many people are struggling at a job that should and actually could be happy and fun, the problem gets made out to be negativity and a personal problem.

I got asked are you happy? FIVE TIMES & said yes 5 times and then the manager said “I’m trying to help you” and fired me over a lie by the end of the month

The only time I’ve heard it in my 25 years in the adult workforce was during my step one grievance meeting when they completely sidestepped all of my concerns and said that they wanted the best for me and it was a parent that “ you were not happy here and we wonder if this is the best fit for you”.
