I like to believe theres a curse when two people love eachother but never end up together basically if those two never get married their love will be passed on their offspring for example marilla was inlove with gilberts dad if they never got married and they had children but with different person their children would fall in love again and again until eventually their offsprings get married and have a happy family and thats when the curse will end
