Thanks for this. Have been in family therapy, which felt off often, these points (partly) describe why. It was as you described; a reenactment space where the negative cycle is repeated over and over again. Also, our therapist could not hold on to the question asked or the point made, he was very prone to react to new information instead of circling back to the question or point. Would have loved your guidance, but unfortunately youre about somewhat thousands kms away haha. However, love your content!

I didn’t have the words for this when we went to therapy but I clocked that it wasn’t this way & decided not to go again. Finding a therapist is so hard.

Even if an adult child never has the opportunity to go into therapy with their parent or parents to resolve issues of harm, I think it’s hugely supportive of them to watch this video and get a sense of validation and understanding of what good looks like in family therapy.

Honestly, people should probably be asking that question about spousal bond versus parent child bond of marriage counselors as well. There seems to be a few people who have them swapped.

It is truly heartbreaking how many bad therapists are out there who actually harm their patients. I wish the therapy field would address this directly, like by removing bad actors from therapist associations or by revoking licenses. Patients should be able to trust providers 😢

That may be a wonderful approach when estrangement is due to an neglectful/abusive or unavailable parent that resulted in estrangement. What if the factors I identified above are not part of the estrangement/LC/NC CURRENTLY?
