@leahshomestead: I think a lot of people are overwhelmed because chicken coop advice online has become two extremes… Either a luxury Pinterest chicken mansion… or a pile of pallets with zero airflow. But honestly, chickens care a lot more about staying dry, having good ventilation, protection from predators, and enough space than they do about aesthetics. Functional beats fancy every time. A simple coop that’s well ventilated, easy to clean, predator-proof, and actually works year-round will outperform a “pretty” coop that creates moisture, ammonia buildup, and constant problems. I agree 100%. BUT, once you've got the immediate PRACTICAL needs satisfied, why not go back & make it PRETTY?? For example, by adding GINGERBREAD (ornate decoration)?? Actually, since it would increase your property's resale value & draw peeps to your social media pages, such could be deemed PRACTICAL as well! 😍💰😍💰 . 👍🏻

Once it's fully functional then I don't mind a little cuteness added. But one should set a budget and stick to it not constantly think they need to add something they saw online that someone else did. Instead of spending unnecessary money on a coop they could have spent that money on chickens that were already close to laying age.
