I also am fascinated by the fact that the auditory hallucinations appear to be influenced by geography, with people having friendly/helpful voices in most of the world but in the western countries they are reported to be more negative/harmful.

The reason this does not happen is because the probability of schizophrenia and the probability of cortical blindness are both very unlikely. When you combine the probabilities, then it's extremely unlikely. That's about it, it's the entire explanation.

What about auditory hallucinations based on auditory prediction models?

What’s even scarier is that’s how AI works. So in however many thousands of years, AI could potentially be … like our brains

Also people that were born deaf will see hands signing instead of hearing voices

I have experienced my brains visual predictive system many times. When I sleep I wear a mask that covers my eyes, so when I’m about to sleep it’s complete darkness. If falling asleep takes a long time and I focus on staying physically and mentally still to fall asleep, my brain will create very vivid images of my surroundings. Seeing I know very well what my room looks like, it’s a very accurate representation of my room, like I have my eyes open in the mostly dark room and can see all the contours/outlines. I have out of curiosity decided to test the accuracy of placement by ex reaching out to ”grab” something I see (e.g grab the water bottle on my nightstand table or touch my husband), the predicted distance is not correct. 😂

I wonder if it’s similar to tinnitus when you have hearing impairments. Mine went away when I received my hearing aids. I was told my brain was trying to hear things because it wasn’t by my audiologist.

I wonder if this is kind of the same thing as to when people lose their hearing and don’t treat it they’re more likely to develop dementia

Isn’t motion sickness related to what your brain predicts and what you actually feel?

for anyone wondering: predictive processing is why you sometimes drive a familiar route but don't remember doing so! your brain didn't have any incorrect predictions, so it didn't waste energy consciously recording the journey.

What about hearing voices? Schizophrenics also hear voices. It’s not just visual.

Schrizophrenia is like 0.33% of the population and congenital blindness is like 0.02%, it’s quite likely they just haven’t been picked up in datasets

Immediate question- what about auditory hallucinations? Those are more common-does the vision impairment also impair auditory hallucinations

Saying it doesn't care about your age and diet is a weird statement. Especially when we do have certain ages (that age will depend if you're male or female) when it first shows up. And my family member's flare ups did seem to be tied into how much they were taking care of themselves. Less sleep and eating poorly would greatly increase the risk of an episode.

Now that makes me question another variable to consider: what if there are such incidents of born-blind schizophrenics, but they manifested differently? What about the physiological s/S of schizophrenia? Are there any?
