grew up in the california desert, seven miles from the border. my dad put a water spigot into a shed at the far end of the property away from our house and left blankets in it. the shed was never used for anything, rarely touched. it was just there bc he knew, sooner or later, someone would need it.

I told my mother who was originally against illegal immigration something like this and her entire world view changed and I couldn’t be prouder to have a mother who is willing to change and learn despite everything she was raised to believe.

my father did this, he had nothing growing up with 9+ other siblings in mexico. he was the second one to cross along with his brother. he has quite literally given me everything in my life and has the privilege to get whatever he wants now after growing up in severe poverty. he’s my hero ❤️
