Holly is an interesting one. Man looked like a million dollars and a good wrestler. Could even talk (not saying he was amazing at it, but he wasnt bad either). I think this failure was two fold: 1, yes the jobber stink but 2, While the Hardcore gimmick elevated him (Especially with Crash) it didnt make him connect too much with fans. He still needed an edge. jbl around this time completely reinvented himself around his world title run. In hindsight, Holly needed that too. Too 'wash away' any previous negative aspects. only my opinion.

the fans appreciated the "You tried to end my career, so I'm gonna end yours" The real problem was it was treated as an afterthought by creative and basically just slotted in because there was a gap of time where they needed to give Brock something to do until after the Rumble. Then instead of trying to capitalize on this brief shot at main event glory and placing him in the upper echelon to be a credible threat to the title holders, they quickly dropped Holly back into Midcard limbo and forgot about him making the whole program feel even more pointless
