@botanicallybe: day 19 of turning my home into my Pinterest board... today, we stain the table! 🖌️ what do you think? #diytable #woodtable #diyproject #woodstaining #woodwork @Minwax @pinterest @Lowe’s
You can opt out and get legs off of Amazon. And also stain darker. That might not be your vision but it might save your project.

Could be from not being sanded enough. I had a similar experience when staining a light wood desk that I wanted dark, at first it was picking up the colour oddly so i sanded back and tried again. But end up doing multiple layers of stain with a sealer between and not completely wiping/blending the stain off each time as it dried which isn't instructed but it helped to keep more colour. Could give that a go took days but was worth it, desk went from light oak to a dark chocolate kinda colour 😅🤷♀️

So weird the table top and legs are both pine but the top took the stain so much better?? I’m interested to see how you pivot bc I’m invested now 😂

Could you do like a watered down paint wash over it?

No don’t scrap it, if looks AMAZING! Home improvement projects are like art, they aren’t going to be perfect. But.. they will be custom fit to your taste plus the added benefits of saving money and knowing you have a one of one piece. I would say do another layer of stain or get this stuff called polyshades.. it’s stain and poly in one so it’s thicker and does a better job at staining imo. Over all, you are doing a PHENOMENAL JOB to be new to this.

You could paint the legs to match the pot. You could get a perfect custom colour match. Or I wonder if you could add a little black paint, the way people add some white to whitewash it. A little touch of black paint to make it much darker.

what if you paint it, find a color close to the color of the stain on the top.

You can also rent power tools from home depot/lowes, if you need something you don't want to buy long term

You can get a sample of brown paint and put a tablespoon in the stain and reapply

i’m so invested!!! you can apply another coat and wait a few minutes to make sure the stain penetrates. make sure to do 2 coats of polyurethane, i like to use water based. you got this!!!

Try getting early American in a solid stain and diluting it with water for the legs. It’s thicker so you may be able to match the top better by changing the thickness. Worst case scenario, you add a layer of this to the top to match.
