growing up in the 90s I loved how Mystique and Destiny were a couple. there was so few gay and bisexual characters and they were portrayed so well in the comics before the "father retcon" crap

Yeah marvel themselves retconned Nightcrawlers origin. It used to be that Mystique was Nightcrawlers mom and the demon Azazel was his father. Now they changed it to Mystique shapeshifting into a man and impregnating Destiny who carried Kurt to term. So mystique went from mother to father.
