British guy living in az. I spent a year in nyc and was thriving. Relocated to az and it’s been a nightmare. A difficult cultural adjustment. The climate is no joke. I miss the uk weather. I don’t like having to drive everywhere. It hasn’t been easy to say the least. I’ll prob do another 2 years and head home. Stacking my 401k which is nice. But there’s more to life than money

I moved from UK to Dubai (different I know) but I would say Dubai is even lonelier! It’s taken me 10 months to make a genuine friend I would now consider my closest friend. I am only just finding my routine after 10 months, but funnily enough I have now decided to move to the states in 1 month 😭 hopefully this time is easier!! ❤️

Moving away from family and the only home and way of life you know....is...one of the bravest things a person can do! Pat yourself on the back! Do not minimize that! You are braver and stronger than you know!👍😁💯 Welcome to America!👍💯

I moved to Upstate NY to be with my husband in June 2025. We have winter that lasts 7 months, it's been terrible. My husband was deployed for a portion of that, so I was on my own. It was terribly lonely, making friends is incredibly hard because the friendships seem so superficial. I hope everything starts to get better for you soon ♥️

Felt every word of this! I came over with my green card but didn’t get my SSN until I’d been here nearly 2 months and I said the EXACT same thing, that I was like a non existent person, literally unable to do anything. It is SO hard moving to a whole different country and you feel bad complaining because you should feel lucky. So mad we’re v far away - I’d be your friend based on this TikTok alone!

I moved to Miami to be with my husband back in 2020, I can relate a lot leaving a busy life you’re used to in the uk to start again and I felt really isolated. Little things like not know the best place to go to to pick up certain things, or what to do if you’ve got a problem etc, all the things you know how to sort back home, it’s out the window (or I felt it was!) it takes a long time to settle in a new country and culture.

So relatable, I’ve been here 18 months now, not sure if you’re working but that definitely helped me as I was able to make friends! Also at first I was just miserable that I didn’t have my family but I really make an effort now with his side ie meeting for coffee etc! X

Hi Holly, I resonate with your video a lot. I lived in the UK for 7 years, moved to Switzerland and now we’re looking to move to the States. I would be in a similar situation so if you are still in needs of a friend do let me know!

The US healthcare system IS a lot of work! If I ever become a lady of leisure, I really want to volunteer to help the elderly navigate the increasingly online nature of it all. I’m young with a lot of health issues and can only imagine how hard this is for those without tech skills. 🥺

I moved from the uk to La 4 years ago and to say it wasn’t the hardest transition is an understatement. Get stuck into something new. You won’t regret pushing through the hard times because it gets SOOO much better!! Good luck ❤️

The loneliness comes and goes in waves, I’m coming up on 3 years and it still does. Once you figure out how long you can emotionally manage being away, you’ll find a rhythm with it. I found that a flight at least every 6 months is needed for overall sanity 😂

Are there any meetup groups you can join? I’m sure there are plenty of women where you live who would love to meetup and make new friends! I think once you get a good core group of friends, things will get naturally easier. ❤️Btw, I lived in the UK for a bit (as an American) - so I can totally understand what it feels like to uproot your life and get used to a different culture. Loved my time there though, but it mostly had to do with having some great colleagues that I could explore and travel with (both American expats and Brit locals).
