It’s worth finding a good provider. My GYN (they do not do obstetrics at all in that office which i love) is a nurse practitioner and she’s so smart close to my age and androgynous which makes me super comfortable

i had a very similar experience as a teenager, and the pap smear provider yelled at me to stop clenching. last year after 11 years i had my first pap smear with a lovely doctor and she also had an awful pap smear experience when she was young and gave me the most thoughtful and calm pap smear experience i could have ever hoped for. used the small speculum, put the gel packets in her pocket to warm them up while she got prepared, talked me through every step empathetically. it was very healing, and i hope you can have the same soon 🩷🩷🩷

I'm not sure about the US, but recently in Australia they give you a swab kit and you can do the swap yourself and then just drop it back to them to test. Gives you privacy and saves your dignity! 🩷

im so sorry this happend to you. I highly recommend going to see a women’s health nurse practitioner or nurse midwife. They are the best and have amazing bedside manner and a more holistic approach! I find that most of them are very trauma informed

I have vaginismus. I only ever get a pap when I have to get my IUD replaced. I had a young female doctor and wow I think they're training them better these days. it was still very painful but she was so sensitive to my needs

Going to a men gynecologist is like going to a mechanic who never had a car, only books that explain them, switch to a woman and try too go with a friend, lots of hugs 🥰🥰

I’m sorry that happened to you. I’ve found the best care from midwives. They do routine care as well. It’s a game changer. Highly recommend. Most are trauma informed, better educated on evidence based research, and are women focused.
